Clinical Rotation: Walk-In Radiology Facility
Not a terrible Monday. Received my first comp of the semester, a dorsal spine. Morning as usual was kind of slow, so I took advantage of the free time and studied for a test. Was hoping to receive a free comp on a shoulder arthrography, but the dude didn't show up. I love getting easy comps....especially the ones where you don't do anything. Did my first solo skull x-rays, but couldn't use them as a comp because it wasn't a full skull series (just a check at the orbits to ensure there was no metal...a pre MRI screening procedure). As usually the afternoon dragged out, and about a half hour before check out time a slew of obnoxious x-rays came in....actually the easiest pelvis exam came in...love bony patients lol they're so easy to palpate. Then bilateral knees. The dude was gigantic, no wonder he had knee problems. Pictures came out fine despite his inability to get into a proper position. My tech called the pictures sloppy because of the way I had to shoot the pictures, but what she thinks doesn't really matter to me all that much. She doesn't do much along the lines of instruction and constructive advice, she simply holds the the norm of all x-ray techs and is just miserable.
Today was a lecture day which I won't normally talk about, but the wasted time really annoyed me. Spent a good half hour chatting about nothing really related to x-ray, then about 20 whole minutes of notes (aka downloadable powerpoint presentation). Our film analysis teacher wasn't in today but gave us 20 pages of questions to go over...many of which were on last weeks test...somethings fishy. Even when this particular instructor is in class the teaching is at a minimum. Somehow we're expected to go home and do all the learning on our own for this one...For me its better that way, but financially its just a waste....This school needs to take a better look at its faculty and their teaching abilities.
